Author Interview:

Hi Lisa! Welcome, welcome! I’m excited to have you here for Leap Books Monster Backlist Bash!!!

Today I thought we’d talk about you’re a bit about your book Deep In the Meadows. So, how about we dive right in and get started?

Sure thing.

Deep in the Meadows sounds like a perfect book to read at this time of the year. Being that Halloween is just a couple days away, how would you describe in your own words what this title is about?

This book is about a girl that lost her brother, someone she was super close to, then to have ripped away from a horrible accident. But as the anniversary of her brother’s death nears,  Bianca (Bee) begins to feel his presence more and more. Soon Bee begins to realize it may not have been an accident after all.  From that point on, she begins to search for the truth. And what she uncovers is something she could have never imagined.

What was the easiest and hardest part in writing this title?

The easiest part was writing the very first rough draft. The hardest part was the editing with Leap.

Can you share with us your favorite line or two from Deep in the Meadows?

“Jimmy’s dead.”

This is at the ending of the first chapter. And it’s one of the most compelling cliffhangers I’ve written. I love it. It’s really impactful.

Since Halloween is just days away, how about a few questions for you AND your character Bee?

Okay.

Favorite Halloween Candy?   For Me, 100 Grand and for Bee, Reese’s cups.
Favorite Scary Movie?   Beneath. There’s a few “Beneath” movies. But it’s the one where the sister gets burned and dies in a car accident, then comes back to haunt her sister. It’s kind of like Deep, but really different in the same right. Bee, she’d rather watch an Adam Sandler movie.

Favorite Halloween costume you’ve dressed up with in the past?

The “Queen of the Damned.” For Bee, the queen of hearts.

Do you believe in Ghosts?

Absolutely, without a doubt. For Bee, yes. Now she believes too.

If you could be any supernatural creature what would you want to be and why?

I’d like to be Spiderman, does that count? He flies around town with his web and helps people. That’s what I’d love to do. For Bee, she’d want to be a werewolf, not to hurt anyone of course, but to run free in the forest, not be scared.

What are each of you most scared of?

For me, it’s losing my kids. And for Bee it’s being alone in a black forest.

What plans do you AND Bee have for this Halloween?

We just moved recently, so I’m eager to give out candy and see the new kind of costumes out there. For Bee she’s going to a big Halloween party with her friends and dressing up as a nurse.

And lastly, what do you hope readers will take away from Bee’s story after reading?

That there may actually be a presence out there, that’s around you, and helping you along the way. I truly believe that when loved ones pass away, their presence still remains.

Lisa and Bee, thanks for spending some time with me and talking about the book Deep in the Meadows and all things Halloween!! It’s been great and I Lisa, feel free to drop on by sometime again soon!

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween to you too, and to everyone, have a safe holiday!
